Chief Financial Officer

Derek Lennon has served as the Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s (MGC) Chief Financial and Accounting Officer since the Commission’s inception in 2013, playing a pivotal role in establishing the agency’s financial foundation.

Lennon architected comprehensive financial and human resources frameworks that transformed the MGC from a startup regulatory body into a fully operational agency. He assisted in creating regulations governing daily gross gaming revenue tax compliance and the annual assessment for MGC operational dollars.

As a member of the Commission’s Senior Staff, Lennon oversees organizational functions, including human resources, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, procurement, and internal supplier diversity initiatives.

Before joining the MGC, Lennon served for two years as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, where he provided strategic financial counsel to cabinet-level leadership and managed a substantial portfolio. Before this role, Lennon spent five years as CFO of the Department of Conservation and Recreation, directing all financial operations for the Commonwealth’s parks and recreation system.

Lennon graduated from Havard University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences with a concentration in economics.
