Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) joined with Plainridge Park Casino (PPC) and members of the horse racing community from across the Commonwealth to kick off racing season at PPC Monday, April 11.

The first post time of the season marks the beginning of a racing season that runs from April through November with 110 days of racing scheduled. Races will run Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays to start, with some Sundays added in the fall. Post times are generally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. through August and then will be earlier from September-November; however, it is advised to check times directly with PPC.

“It’s wonderful to see the horses back in action at Plainridge,” said MGC Director of Racing Dr. Alex Lightbown. “The purses they earn support a variety of jobs and help preserve open space in Massachusetts.”

In addition to a new season of racing, the day kicked off seasonal employment for 16 MGC employees who are charged with ensuring the integrity and safety of racing operations at PPC. Division of Racing employees are tasked with all aspects of race day regulation, including licensing, judging and managing the barn where blood samples from the horses are taken.

“I’m thrilled to welcome a full season of live racing at Plainridge Park Casino,” said MGC Chair Cathy Judd-Stein. “Opening Day is a special occasion and I always look forward to spending some time with the teams from MGC and PPC who make racing operations run so smoothly.”

PPC is the only live horse racing track in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in operation. Players can also place simulcast bets at PPC.
