Commissioner O’Brien was first appointed to the MGC in March 2018 by then-Attorney General Maura Healey. At the time of her initial appointment, AG Healey cited Commissioner O’Brien’s extensive experience in criminal investigations and enforcement. Candidates for the Attorney General’s one appointment to the Gaming Commission must have a background in law enforcement and criminal investigations.

Attorney General Andrea Campbell reappointed Commissioner O’Brien to a second term in April 2023.

“I’m thrilled that GGB Magazine has recognized Commissioner O’Brien’s extensive contributions and named her to this distinguished list – she is certainly a person to watch in 2024,” said MGC Chair Cathy Judd-Stein. “Her work as a commissioner has helped Massachusetts set the standard for fair and rigorous regulation and oversight of the gaming industry. I’ve been privileged to work alongside her and join all her colleagues at the Commission in congratulating her on this honor.”

Before joining the Commission, Eileen O’Brien served as Director of the Audit, Oversight and Investigations Division of the Inspector General’s Office. She also spent five years as Senior Trial Counsel for the Criminal Bureau of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and served in various positions within the Special Investigations and Narcotics Division at the AG’s Office, including chief of the division from April 2004 to July 2008.

In years past Global Gaming Business Magazine recognized former MGC executive director Karen Wells on the 25 people to watch list, and recently the magazine included MGC sports wagering business manager Crystal Beauchemin on their 2024 Emerging Leaders of Gaming 40 under 40 listClick here to find Global Gaming Business’ full list of the 25 People to Watch for 2024.
