Notice of Intent Regarding License for Sports Wagering Released by Massachusetts Gaming Commission

Entities interested in seeking a sports wagering license asked to complete form

Ahead of the first stakeholder roundtable being held by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) focused on sports wagering, the MGC has released a Notice of Intent form regarding licenses for sports wagering in the Commonwealth.

On August 10 Governor Baker signed into law House Bill 5164, which legalizes betting on certain sports in the Commonwealth and designates the MGC as the regulator of the new industry. The law identifies three categories of sports wagering licenses, which the MGC may grant to entities meeting specific requirements. As the MGC continues to work to regulate and stand-up sports wagering in Massachusetts, the MGC is requesting that any entity interested in obtaining a sports wagering license to submit this Notice of Intent so a landscape of interest in sports wagering licenses can come into focus.

The Notice of Intent can be found on the MGC’s website by visiting www.massgaming.com/about/sports-wagering-in-massachusetts/forms. Those wishing to submit are asked to do so by August 31, 2022.

Submitting a Notice of Intent does not serve as an application for a sports wagering license and additionally, failure to submit a Notice of Intent does not preclude an entity from applying for a sports wagering license in the future.
