The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is now accepting applications for its internship program. This is an exciting opportunity for college students to gain hands-on experience in the world of gaming regulation and policy.
The MGC regulates the casino, racing, and sports betting industries in Massachusetts, prioritizing integrity, consumer protection, and responsible gaming. The Commission aims to create a safe, fair environment that benefits the state’s economy and workforce while minimizing negative impacts through informed regulation and policy making.
An internship with the MGC offers exposure to the inner workings of a government regulatory agency. Interns will have the chance to assist with a wide range of tasks. Including, but not limited to:
- Preparing for and supporting the execution of MGC public meetings and hearings
- Tracking and managing constituent/stakeholder comments received by the MGC
- Assisting in the tracking of legislation related to the duties of the MGC
- Assisting and/or managing special projects at the direction of the Interim Chair and Executive Director
- Opportunities for projects across the MGC in areas such as sports wagering, horse racing, finance, and research and responsible gaming
“Our internship program is a chance for young professionals to get their foot in the door and see firsthand how a state gaming regulator operates,” said Interim Chair Jordan Maynard. “We’re looking for bright and motivated individuals who share our commitment to upholding the integrity of the gaming industry of Massachusetts.”
The internship program is open to undergraduate students, and applicants should have excellent verbal and written skills, with a keen eye for detail and strong time-management abilities. The ability to follow directions, execute multiple tasks efficiently, and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is essential. Interns must also be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
The Commission is looking for applicants with previous professional or educational work internship experience, or current enrollment in full or part-time educational or professional development programming. Please note that this is a paid internship.
The application process involves submitting a resume and brief written responses to several questions. The Commission will review all applications and schedule interviews with selected candidates. Applications are being accepted now for the fall semester and will again be accepted for the spring and summer semesters in 2025.
The successful candidate must pass an extensive background check, including a CORI and compliance agreement.
