Meeting Notification: MGC to hold public meeting on January 18, 2024; Conference Call Available

WHO:                     Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission including Chair Cathy Judd-Stein and Commissioners Brad Hill, Jordan Maynard, Eileen O’Brien, and Nakisha Skinner

WHAT:                The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold public meeting #495 on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

After the meeting is called to order, the Commission will vote on a pair of meeting minutes from MGC meetings formerly held on March 23, 2023 and April 13, 2023.

Interim Executive Director Todd Grossman will then head an administrative update, which is expected to cover an update regarding regulatory development on cashless wagering for casinos. A legislative update is expected to follow, where commissioners will discuss the possible adoption of a draft letter to the legislature proposing amendments to gaming, sports wagering, and horse racing laws for the commissioners’ consideration.

The MGC Legal Division will then head the ensuing portion of the meeting. During that time, the Commission will discuss a trio of regulations: 205 CMR 152, 205 CMR 16, and 205 CMR 221.

The Sports Wagering Division will then present a 90-day audit report ahead of an anticipated Executive Session on the matter.

Upon returning from the Executive Session, commissioners will hear from Interim Director of the Investigations and Enforcement Bureau (IEB) Caitlin Monahan. The IEB is slated to present a sports wagering noncompliance incident review report as well as an overview of durable suitability investigation process. An Executive Session is anticipated following those discussions.

Legal and IEB will head the meeting upon its return from Executive Session, where they are expected to lead a discussion on the possible adoption of policy and procedures regarding the administration of certain non-compliance matters.

Research and Responsible Gaming will then help present a report called Assessing the Influence of Gambling on Public Safety in Massachusetts Cities and Towns: Crime Comparison Analysis of Changes in the MGM Springfield Region, 2013-2022.

A discussion regarding interim personnel authority will take place followed by an update on the MGC Boston office lease. An Executive Session is slated to follow the office lease agenda item.

Commissioners Updates are expected to round out the meeting, though there is time allotted near the end of the meeting for any other business that the Chair did not reasonably anticipate at the time of posting.
