Meeting Notification: MGC to hold public meeting on December 19, 2019

WHO:                    Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission including Chair Cathy Judd-Stein and Commissioners Gayle Cameron, Eileen O’Brien, Bruce Stebbins, and Enrique Zuniga 

WHAT:                  The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold public meeting #284 on Thursday, December 19, 2019.

The meeting will begin with an approval of minutes, followed by an administrative update from Executive Director Ed Bedrosian.

Investigations and Enforcement Bureau Director Karen Wells will request that the Commission vote on a clarification of Regulation 205 CMR 134.09 regarding Sealed Records.

Executive Director Bedrosian will then request a vote on draft Region C Request for Information/Public Comment questions.

Director of Research and Responsible Gaming Mark Vander Linden, alongside Dr. Rachel Volberg, the principal investigator on the MGC’s Social and Economic Impacts of Gambling in Massachusetts (SEIGMA) study, will provide a research procurement update.

Dr. Alex Lightbown, the MGC’s Racing Division Director, will then honor Chief Steward Susan Walsh, who was recently awarded the prestigious Pete Pedersen Award from the Racing Officials Association Program.

Director Vander Linden and Program Manager Teresa Fiore will present an update on GameSense, the MGC’s responsible gaming program.

It is anticipated that the Commission will then vote on the following Community Mitigation Amendment Requests:

  • 2019 Revere Non-Transportation Planning Grant – VOTE
  • Holyoke Community College for MA Casino Training Institute – VOTE

Ombudsman John Ziemba and Director Vander Linden will then request a vote related to a Local Community Mitigation Advisory Sub-Committee on Addiction Services.

During a discussion on other commission matters, Commissioner Zuniga will provide a status update on MGC’s 2019 Annual Report, followed by an update from Commissioner Cameron on the Gaming Enforcement Unit’s overtime budget.

Chief Financial and Accounting Officer Derek Lennon, alongside Commissioner O’Brien, Interim General Counsel Todd Grossman and HR Manager Trupti Banda, will then request that the Commission vote on pay approval for the previous Interim Chair.
