Meeting Notification: MGC to hold public meeting on August 18, 2022; Conference Call Available

WHO:                  Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission including Chair Cathy Judd-Stein and Commissioners Brad Hill, Jordan Maynard, Eileen O’Brien, and Nakisha Skinner

WHAT:                    The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold public meeting #389 on Thursday, August 18, 2022.

After the meeting is called to order, Executive Director Karen Wells will lead an Administrative Update that will cover the Release of a Notice of Intent, as well as Additional Updates.

Following that, the Commission will proceed with the main portion of the meeting, which will be Round Table Discussions relating to the promulgation of Sports Wagering Operations in Massachusetts.Those discussions will be broken down into the following five parts:

  • Presentation of Initial Preparations for In-Person Sports Wagering Operations.
    • Representatives from the MGC’s three licensees – Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield, and Encore Boston Harbor – will all be in attendance, as will representatives from the states two simulcasting locations: Suffolk Downs and Raynham Park.
  • Operations
    • Topics covered will be Placement/Floor Plans, Staffing/Hiring, House Rules, Internal Control Submissions, Security, Equipment and Technology, Identified Challenges and Regulatory Implications.
  • Licensing Procedures – Applications, Suitability, Reciprocity
    • Topics covered will be Operator License, Occupational Licensing, Vendor Licensing, Identified Challenges and Regulatory Implications.
  • Responsible Gaming and Advertising (Licensee’s Perspective)
    • Topics covered will be Voluntary Self-Exclusion, Promo Play, Advertising/Marketing Guidelines, Identified Challenges and Regulatory Implications.
  • Timelines
    • Topics covered will be Licensee Milestones for Standing up Retail Operations, Prioritization of Regulatory Promulgation, Discussion of Staggered vs. Simultaneous In-Person Sports Wagering Launch.

There is also time reserved at the end of the meeting for matters the Chair did not reasonably anticipate at the time of posting.
