Meeting Notification and PRESS CONFERENCE: MassGaming to take official vote regarding the state’s first resort-casino license

Commissioners and MGM Springfield expected to sign a license agreement

WHO:            Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission including Chairman Steve Crosby, Commissioner Gayle Cameron, Commissioner James McHugh, Commissioner Bruce Stebbins and Commissioner Enrique Zuniga; MGM Resorts International Chairman and CEO Jim Murren, MGM Resorts International President Bill Hornbuckle and MGM Springfield  President Michael Mathis; and City of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno.

WHAT:          After completing an intense evaluation process of the resort-casino proposal put forth by MGM Springfield, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is prepared to take a final vote to enter into an agreement to award the single Category 1 (resort-casino) license available for Region B (Western Massachusetts). It is anticipated that the Commission and MGM Springfield will sign an agreement outlining a series of license conditions and considerations.

Beginning on June 10, 2014, the five commissioners gave a series of public presentations on the five key criteria used to evaluate all of the expanded gaming applications which include 1. Overview of Project; 2. Finance; 3. Economic Development; 4. Building and Site Design; 5. Mitigation. The commissioners worked with independent advisors and various subject matter experts to evaluate MGM’s final application over the course of many months. That effort resulted in the public presentations and evaluation analysis presented by the commissioners this week. The evaluation presentations and analysis for each of the five categories are available online here.

A LIVE STREAM of both the public meeting and press conference will be available on the MassGaming homepage. In addition, community members are invited to follow along with live meeting updates by connecting with the commission on Twitter, @MassGamingComm.
