The following is a blog post from Director of Supplier, Workforce, and Diversity Development Jill Griffin:
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission was pleased to participate in the third annual Small, Local, Minority and Woman Owned Businesses Networking Event, held at Northeastern University on August 21, 2014. More than 300 suppliers offering a wide variety of goods and services attended.
Many businesses were interested in connecting with procurement opportunities at MassGaming while others were interested in learning more about the licensing and registration requirements for vendors to a casino. Representatives from casino applicants Wynn MA, LLC and Mohegan Sun Massachusetts were there to discuss potential procurement opportunities with area businesses.
We provided general information regarding casino locations and the selection process, and directed businesses to procurement contacts for the licensees. In one case, a MWBE (Minority Woman Business Enterprise) had been a leadership development trainer for casino employees in Las Vegas. She was pleased to learn that the casino she had worked with previously is one of the potential casinos for Massachusetts. It is our hope that some of these businesses will have an opportunity to work with a casino in the next few years.
I would like to thank the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Supplier Diversity Office and Northeastern University, for co-sponsoring the event.
