MGC Chair Jordan Maynard visits Chelsea’s La Colaborativa

On Tuesday, November 13, Massachusetts Gaming Commission Chair Jordan Maynard visited the nonprofit organization La Colaborativa in Chelsea. The tour was led by several key members of La Colaborativa’s leadership team, including Present & CEO Gladys Vega, Chief Operating Officer Alex Train, Director of Impact Phillip Warren White, Career Pathways & Workforce Development Coordinator Brendan Mitchell, and Director of Economic Sustainability & Mobility Carlos R. Gálvez.

During the visit, Chair Maynard walked through La Colaborativa’s new facilities, which had opened earlier in 2023. These include a survival center that provides essential services to the local community, an economic development center focused on job readiness and workforce support, a food bank, and a recently unveiled outdoor space named “La Placita Gobernador Baker” – a tribute to former Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker in recognition of his work with La Colaborativa during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tour allowed Chair Maynard to directly observe the impact of La Colaborativa’s programs, particularly their Job Readiness and Rapid Reemployment initiatives supported by the Community Mitigation Fund (CMF). During his visit, Maynard spoke with various La Colaborativa team members to better understand how the CMF could continue to provide helpful support and resources for the organization’s efforts to empower the Latinx community in Chelsea.

Overall, the tour gave Chair Maynard an in-depth look at the scope of services and programs offered by La Colaborativa and the opportunity to engage with the nonprofit’s leadership on ways the Commission and CMF can further collaborate to address the needs of the local community.
