GameSense FY23 Report Shows Increase in Responsible Gaming Tools Usage

This week, GameSense released its annual report for FY23, showcasing an increase in the number of patrons who utilized the numerous responsible gaming tools offered by both the organization and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

Voluntary-Self Exclusion, a statewide program that allows patrons to voluntarily exclude themselves from casino gambling, sports wagering or both for a predetermined amount of time, saw a 12% increase in enrollments from last year. While 436 patrons utilized the service a year ago, that number increased to 490 in FY23.

Similarly, 107 follow-up requests were made to the Voluntary-Self Exclusion program in FY23. Of those, successful contact was made with 75% following their initial request. More than half of those who received a follow-up agreed to additional Telephone Recovery Support (TRS) in FY23, with 44 total participants engaging in TRS in that time period.

PlayMyWay (PMW), the innovative budgeting tool currently available to patrons at all Massachusetts casinos, saw sign-ups increase by 264% in FY23, with 11,549 enrollees. This spike was due to the increase in signups at both MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino, as well as the launch of PMW at Encore Boston Harbor, which prompted 6,200 enrollments.

GameSense continued its great work to help educate game-players across the Commonwealth in FY23, conducting more than 580 LiveChat sessions via GameSenseMA.com. They also increased their demonstrations and exchanges with patrons – defined as substantive, educational interactions about responsible gaming – by 42% during the period, with 80,371 in FY23.

GameSense is an innovative responsible gaming program that encourages casino patrons who chose to gamble to adopt and/or maintain positive behaviors and attitudes that reduce the risk of gambling-related harm. The program offers tips on responsible gaming, engaging tools, and advice and referrals to reduce harm. GameSense Info Centers are located on-site at all Massachusetts casinos and staffed by trained GameSense Advisors during casino operating hours.
