Here is what you need to know about this week’s open public meeting!
WHO: Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission including Chairman Steve Crosby, Commissioner Gayle Cameron; Commissioner James McHugh; Commissioner Bruce Stebbins and Commissioner Enrique Zuniga
WHAT: The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) is hosting its weekly open meeting to discuss the latest gaming news. Commissioners are expected to discuss the following:
- Surrounding Communities Definition. MGC will discuss comments received earlier this month on the definition of “surrounding community.”
- Protocols and Procedures Discussion – MGC is also expected to discuss potential protocols and procedures to allow applicants and surrounding communities to reach a surrounding community agreement. Under the Gaming Act, an applicant and a surrounding community have thirty days to negotiate a surrounding community agreement once the community is designated a surrounding community by the Commission if they have not executed one prior to the date the gaming application is filed with MGC. If the community and the applicant have not reached an agreement by the end of that 30 days, MGC is required to implement protocols and procedures for ensuring the conclusion of a fair and reasonable agreement in order to allow the applicant to submit a timely and complete application. Further comment on the surrounding communities definition and the protocols and procedures will be requested before they are finalized.
- Category 2 Timeline – In addition, MGC is expected to discuss potential revisions to the timeline for Category 2 (slots only) applications.
