Last week, leaders from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), the Massachusetts Council on Gambling and Health (MCGH), GameSense, and MGM Springfield gathered at the Springfield-based casino to celebrate the one-year anniversary of PlayMyWay at MGM.
PlayMyWay, a voluntary budgeting tool available on electronic games at all three Massachusetts casinos, launched at MGM Springfield on March 31, 2022. The innovative budgeting tool is designed to allow casino rewards card members the ability to monitor the amount of money they spend, and to support their decision to continue or stop playing.

The responsible-gaming tool is an optional benefit where users have the opportunity to personalize their play by setting a budget before they begin gambling. PlayMyWay is intended to help players make decisions about gambling, allow them to monitor and understand their playing behavior in real-time, and support their decisions.
The PlayMyWay program is the latest tool added to MGC’s wide-ranging and unique responsible gaming framework known as GameSense. Players can enroll, un-enroll, and/or adjust their budget at anytime with the voluntary program. Massachusetts is the only jurisdiction in the United States that offers such a tool at each casino facility in the state.
Nearly 1,200 users enrolled in the program within the first month of its launch at MGM Springfield. As of the one-year anniversary on March 31, 2023, 5,334 players were actively enrolled in PlayMyWay at MGM Springfield alone.
PlayMyWay was originally rolled out as a pilot program at Plainridge Park Casino in 2016. Now a fixture at PPC, PlayMyWay currently has 29,723 patrons enrolled in at the Plainridge slots-parlor. The program also launched at Encore Boston Harbor in September 2022. Since then, 4,499 players have enrolled at that location, bringing the total number of statewide enrollments in PlayMyWay to 39,556 as of March 31.

Patrons at any Massachusetts casino can sign up for PlayMyWay by inserting their player rewards card into any slot machine or electronic game, or at a PlayMyWay Kiosk at a casino’s GameSense Info Center. The program prompts card holders to voluntarily choose a daily, weekly and/or monthly budget to track their spending at the location. Once enrolled, patrons will receive automatic notifications as they approach and reach the budget they set. If a player continues to play, notifications will be received at 25% intervals.
