The Massachusetts legislature legalized casino gaming in 2011 to produce broad-based economic development, including jobs and revenue – but not at any cost. In order to reduce to the maximum extent possible the potentially negative consequences of expanded gaming, the MGC has developed and deployed a robust responsible gaming strategy.
At the center of this strategy is the GameSense program. Between June 2019 and April 2020, GameSense Advisors at Massachusetts’ three casinos had more than 56,000 conversations with patrons about responsible gaming and problem gambling. 98% percent of patrons report being satisfied with the information provided, and 44% went on to say that the program changed the way they think about their gambling behavior.
The MGC is thrilled to share with readers the promising early results of the program with the GameSense Impact Report. As the Commonwealth’s casino industry continues to mature, the MGC looks forward to advancing GameSense through research-driven innovation to meet the needs of Massachusetts’ diverse casino patrons.
