The MGC hopes that this message finds you and your loved ones safe and in good health. Our thoughts remain with those who are battling the coronavirus and their families. Our sincere appreciation is extended to the front line, particularly all medical personnel, risking so much for all of us.
On May 14, 2020, the MGC held a virtual round table discussion with our three licensees – Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Plainridge Park Casino – to advance forward-looking discussions about reopening protocols and procedures.
Currently, we are at the beginning of an iterative process to support a safe and sustainable reopening of all three gaming establishments. Our licensees have been leaders within the gaming industry throughout this global challenge, guiding national discussions and sharing ideas across the industry about how to prepare and operate under a new normal. Like so many organizations around the world, they have been required to make difficult assessments regarding individual business needs and have done so with a shared commitment to health and well-being at the core of their decision-making.
Reopening plans will continue to evolve, informed by science and federal, state and local directives. We are all closely monitoring the guidance of Governor Baker’s Reopening Advisory Board and fully appreciate the Governor’s emphasis that data rather than dates will drive the anticipated phased approach to reopen the Commonwealth’s economy.
The Commission’s role is to be agile and ready to support a thoughtful and operationally sustainable restart when the time is right.
The May 14 discussion was the first step in that effort – to help the entire MGC team continue to anticipate and prepare appropriately.
In addition, the MGC has convened an internal Restart Working Group. This group is assisting with the development of an overall work plan, identifying issues for the Commission’s consideration to facilitate nimble action on key policy and regulatory matters.
The MGC team is also developing in parallel the protocols and procedures for the reopening of the MGC Office to ensure a safe return to the office for MGC employees.
An effective reopening plan will require sustained cooperation from all involved. Thank you to the MGC team and our licensees for your hard work and thoughtful diligence, despite this intense and challenging situation.
Stay Safe.
