The following is a message from
Director of Workforce, Diversity and Supplier Development Jill Griffin:
On Monday, July 11th, I joined Massachusetts Gaming Commission Chairman Steve Crosby, Commissioner Bruce Stebbins, and Executive Director Ed Bedrosian and others at the announcement of funding for the MGM Resorts HCC Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts at Holyoke. The city of Holyoke is receiving $1.28 million in community impact payments from MGM and is providing HCC with $400,000 of those payments to go towards the center. As part of stipulations of the partnerships between the city of Holyoke, HCC and MGM Springfield, 50 Holyoke residents will have free entry to the non-credit programs every year.
The event was held outside of the Cubit Building in downtown Holyoke, which will house the training facility that is set to open in 2017. When it opens, the MGM Resorts HCC Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts will offer various associate degree, certificate and non-credit hospitality, culinary arts, and workforce training programs. The development and funding of this center are the fruits of the partnerships between the City of Holyoke, Holyoke Community College and MGM Springfield.
Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse spoke of the far-reaching impact an opportunity like this will have on the families and other residents of Holyoke. Anton Nikodemus, COO of Regional Operations at MGM Resorts International, shared similar sentiments. He highlighted MGM’s desire to find talent in the area and to offer that talent the chance at a career at MGM. Other speakers included Marikate Murren, Director of Human Resources at MGM Springfield, Bill Messner, President of Holyoke Community College, Congressman Richard E. Neal, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and MGC’s Commissioner Stebbins. The announcement concluded with a culinary demonstration and reception.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission looks forward to the development of programs like the MGM Resorts HCC Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, which could not be created without effective and ongoing partnerships.
