WHO: Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission including Chairman Steve Crosby, Commissioner Gayle Cameron, Commissioner James McHugh, Commissioner Bruce Stebbins and Commissioner Enrique Zuniga; Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services Secretary John Polanowicz
WHAT: The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold its 130th open public meeting on Thursday, July 24th. The Commission will receive an administrative update pertaining to the independent review of agency travel policies and procedures conducted at the request of the Commission.
In addition, the Commission will receive a comprehensive briefing from the Social and Economic Impact of Gambling in Massachusetts (SEIGMA) research team regarding the progress of the research agenda being conducted to establish baseline data on the social and economic effects of expanded gaming in the Commonwealth. The research briefing will be immediately followed by the execution and signing of a first-of its-kind Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. The MOU was developed in order to align state agency efforts and advance strategies to address problem gambling, promote responsible gambling and ensure the most proper use of the Public Health Trust Fund established by the Gaming Act. It is anticipated that EOHHS Secretary John Polanowicz will be in attendance to sign the MOU.
In addition, the Commission is expected to receive progress reports from MGM Springfield and Penn National. The Commission is also expected to vote on a variety of regulations regarding gaming schools, slots, small business impacts and the calculation of capital investment.
Lastly, Commission staff will provide a status update for Region A (Eastern Mass.) including the progress on matters related to the City of Boston and the overall licensing timeline.
